This page contains a brief overview of some of the different design projects I have worked on both in school and during my free time.

 

Digital Product Design and Prototyping

 

DoubleMap Rider Mobile Application

Date: April 2018

Project Type: Mobile Prototype

I took on the role as product manager in helping to improve the rider mobile application for DoubleMap, a transportation management and analytic start up. I worked closely with 3 other members of my team, carefully dedicating our task, providing them with the necessary guidance and ensuring that we are on track with out time line.

We started by asking the question "What is wrong with the current product?" and "How to add more value to the product?" Hence, we analyzed the issues that it currently exist with the current application, as well as how it performs relative to other competing products in the market. This was done through primary user research and market research. Once we obtained all the necessary info we needed, we brainstormed various potential solutions and critique each other's ideas until we have a perfect solution that can both improve the user experience of the product while also giving it more value to the company. We then turned our ideas into designs and created a series of prototypes which we iterated on multiple times based on feedback we have obtained on our user testing.

Microsoft NutriGo

Date: April 2018

Project Type: Wearable Device Prototype

Working closely in a team of 4 and with consulting firm, Avanade, we created a prototype of a wearable device that can help individuals with specific dietary restrictions to shop for groceries, while improving their overall shopping experience. Our client, Avanade wanted a revolutionary new product that incorporates new technologies that would set it apart from all other devices in the market and put Microsoft as leader in this field.

We first conducted a series of research and interviews to better understand the problems many face in the nutrition and diet space. After understanding the pain points faced by individuals, we narrowed down to better shopping experiences as our priority. Collectively as a team, we brainstormed many ideas and concepts while researching existing technologies that we can incorporate into our design. 

We eventually settled on a new personalized wearable wrist band that will better inform users about the various food items in the store and creating a seamless shopping experience. After iterating from our sketches, we finally created and test a hi-fidelity prototype. While cannot reveal the exact details of our final prototype, here are images from stages of our design process.

Airbnb Smart Travel Companion

Date: February 2018

Project Type: Mobile Prototype

As a student for an undergraduate interaction design course, we were tasked to assist Airbnb in designing a smart travel companion to provide its guest with a seamless travel experience. I worked closely in a team of 4 in executing this project from start to end. In addition to applying my design and research skills, I also took the role as team facilitator, using my leadership skills in managing all logistical affairs, and keeping the team on track in the project timeline. We started by performing various primary and secondary research including user interviews , as well as consulting with local businesses and Airbnb itself to better understand the user's pain points in their travels, and what value our solutions can bring to it.

Based on our findings, we  designed and tested multiple iterations of a prototype before sending Airbnb a proposal with our final hi-fidelity prototype. While I am not allowed to showcase our final design as it contains confidential information. Here are photos taken in our design process.

Amazon Audible

Date: February 2018

Project Type: Mobile Prototype

I worked with a group of my peers to redesign the Amazon Audible mobile application to incorporate new features such as highlighting. We first conducted a series of user research such as interviews and observations with active Audible users to better understand how its users interacted with the application and what kind of issues they encountered. The biggest challenge was to create an authentic highlighting experiences for users similar to highlighting a book in real life.

Based on our research, we narrowed our solution and created a user story where we centered our new prototype design for.

Room Finder

Date: September 2017

Project Type: Web Prototype

Room Finder is prototype of a website for a campus wide online room reservation system. This website allows user to find and reserve a vacant room in any building across the Indiana University campus. A filter feature allows users to only find rooms with certain features that meets their needs.

The idea of this prototype came up when I was struggling to find vacant rooms on campus to host meetings. So I began envisioning a solution by sketching prototypes using pen and paper. After multiple iterations and feedbacks from my peers, I then converted my final sketches into an Invision Prototype. Below are some of my early sketches as well as a link to the final hi-fidelity prototype on Invision.

Official website of Net Impact Indiana university undergrad chapter

Date : June 2017

Project Type: Website

Net Impact Indiana University Undergrad Chapter is a student organization that focuses on sustainable business. As the Vice President of Marketing for the organization, I designed and managed the organization's official website. Using my skill set in HTML and CSS, I designed this website that provides detailed information about the organization's background and keeps the general public informed about the organization's latest projects and accomplishments. The types of content that is displayed in the website is selected based on feedbacks given by our members. As my leadership role in the organization will end after graduation, I have also trained my directors to take on this role so that it can be sustained for years to come.

Xtern COINs

Date : October 2016

Project Type: Mobile Prototype

XternCoins is a prototype of a mobile application for a virtual currency. The purpose of this prototype is to provide a convenient platform to send or receive money from your friends. The platform uses a virtual currency called coins, which the users can purchase in the platform using their credit cards, the platform will also display the price of the coins in different currencies so that it can be used in multiple countries.

This design challenge was part of the screening process I went through during my internship with TechPointX. Based on a set of requirements that was given to me, I made multiple designs on Photoshop before selecting and improving on this design that was the most user friendly.

Fiflean.png

Freshman fiflean

Date : September 2016

Project Type: Mobile Prototype

Freshman Fiflean is a prototype of a search engine designed for college students to search for healthy cooking recipes from dozens of recipe websites online. It includes a comprehensive filter that allows users to customize their search based on budget and dietary restrictions.

 

This project was built by me and 3 others for a class and its purpose is to allow students to easily obtain healthy recipes that they can cook without compromising time and budget.  Based on our user research, we came up with a set of requirements we needed to fulfill in the design. After creating an initial design , we tested it with several people from our targeted user group. Based on their feedback, we improved our design until it completely satisfies everyone. As required for the class, this prototype was made with just pencil and paper before it was scanned and put into Invision.

3D Modeling

Barry the Broccoli

This is a simple 3D model of a character I created called Barry the broccoli. The model was made using Blender.

Virtual Reality Design

Lost

Date: September 2016

Lost is my first attempt on building a basic virtual reality environment using Unity. While it is simple, this project has a large map, with sounds and dynamic objects incorporated into it. I first started on this design by carefully understand every set of requirements given by my instructor. I then creating a basic map and slowly added more features to meet every requirements. Once I finalized my maps, I analyzed it and obtained all the materials I needed before assembling them in Unity.
